Christinas Garden

angelica

June 7, 2011 by Christina

Garlic.  Poppies.  Angelica.  Forest.  With one foxtail lily yet to bloom and a little bit of fennel too.  And weeds.
Almost every single person who visits the garden at this time of the year asks me what this plant is.  Angelica!! It’s tall with big round flowers, it smells really nice and is always buzzing with many different varieties of happy pollinators.  You can’t help but notice it.
There seem to be a lot of honey bees in the garden this year.  Native bees and Bumble Bees too….everything is buzzing from early morning to evening!  They all love Angelica.  The swallowtail butterfly caterpillars really love it.  Lots of green lacewings hang out here and lay their eggs on the leaves and those larvae eat lots of aphids and other problem garden pests.  This plant helps make the garden healthy!
Looking into an angelica stalk.  Pretty colour.
Bee visiting Poppy.
It feels like summer is here.

Mike lost a swarm recently, perhaps they are recolonizing in your area? We've been blessed with lots of bees in town these days too, it's nice to see. They come for the erysium bowles (wallflowers), but the rest of the garden gets a visit as well. Speaking of bees, how were the blossoms on your apples this year? Mine on the island were pretty dismal, but in town they were loaded. Not sure why. Kim

Hey Christina! I just stumbled across Roseatta on Facebook, and shortly after that I discovered you and this blog. I LOVE what you're doing with your life! Haven't had a chance to fully explore this blog, but really enjoyed reading how you got started and how you're continuing down this path. Congratulations, and I look forward to following you in your garden! Lisa LaFreniere, GDHS class of (gasp) 1983
